Turkey Fry

Our first turkey fry was held this past Sunday. Though we weren't totally blind going into this event, we did not have any first hand experience either. But with some strong hands, Internet research, and a couple fire extinguishers, it was no problem for this duo.

Injecting the 18.38lb turkey with a Cajun marinade.

Dropping the turkey into 14 liters of boiling peanut oil.

Maintaining that temperature. Only needing to cook 4 minutes per pound.

While the bird is cooking, let the party continue.
Pinata time!

The heavy hit that brought out the candy.
About an hour later - we're fried. Let's eat! Many stuffed bellies . . . who's ready for dessert?
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Look Who's 21 . . .

Then: November 1986
Now: November 2007

A few weeks ago Annie's sister, Mary, turned 21.
We celebrated with a trip Downtown Detroit to Greektown, and of course stopped off at the casino.

The peanut gallery was in attendance.
HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY MARY!

Paint the Town Orange

Home opening game. UVA vs DUKE.
We had a great time experiencing a university football game. UVA was victorious. Go Wa-Hoos!

Though we had a great cultural experience, it did not transform us into football fans. Our favorite parts: super dogs, snow cones, and people watching.
The US Army Golden Knights parachuted down into the stadium before the game and amazingly landed on the 50-yard line.

Close Encounter

Annie glanced out the back door as she was performing various household chores.
She caught a glimpse of a vague movement.

She reversed her steps for a double take.
"HUH!? What!?"

"What is that?" Something on the other side of the fence blended in very well . . . very well.
"Oh my gosh, I can't believe it, right outside our backyard!"

She made a mad dash for the camera as she called Rojelio to be of witness.

Annie was careful not to make any sudden movements as she entered the backyard, there's no telling how this encounter could take course. Rojelio was intently watching in amazement and wonder while holding back Chica, their attack dog.
"Be careful Annie," Rojelio whispered for fear this could end in turmoil.

As Annie approached the back fence, their eyes met. Both froze as to see what the other would do. Annie was the first to make a move.

FLASH-SNAP.

"Gotcha!" Annie quietly exclaimed.

Her subject did not seem to be bothered, going about business as usual before moseying on.

Once realizing it was safe, Rojelio joined Annie at the back fence. But Annie was on a mission. She opened the gate and lurched at a safe distance behind the subject, only now there was not the security of being behind the wooden planks.

A neighborhood cat suddenly appeared. Oh this could spell TROUBLE. Who knows what adding a cat to this formula could do. Annie closely observed. FLASH-SNAP. FLASH-SNAP.

Nothing. Nothing happened. Both the subject and the neighborhood nuisance harmonized and went on their ways.

Annie returned back to the yard. Her and Rojelio discussed the event, concluding it could have been as exciting as the observer made it. So for chuckles, they decided to make it pretty exciting.

The couple reentered their home resuming household duties, while making more frequent trips past the back door at a chance to relive the excitement, even though it was already digitally captured.
A few days later they saw their friend, Doris, out-and-about in the neighborhood. They figured she and the neighborhood cat had become friends. She was hangin' out at his house all afternoon and needed to head back to her forest home before the street lights came on.

One Week

We can't believe it's already been one week since our wedding.
No, we are not going to be one of those corny couples that celebrates every little thing . . . . or are we!?

Happy One Week Anniversary to Us!

One Year Down

Yesterday was Rojelio's last day of internship (first year of residency). He is now officially a second year resident. During his second year of residency he will apply and interview for fellowships. Then he will become top dog in his third year of residency before moving on to a fellowship, unless he decides to go for chief resident, which would mean one more year of residency before fellowship. Got all that!?
We celebrated with China Buffet and SUPERMAN balloons (because he is MY superman!).
Congratulations Rojelio!
I am so proud of you!

She Strikes Again

The while you were out one person crew strikes again. This time Rojelio's office received a window treatment makeover.
Going from mini-blind BLAH . . .

. . . to sunshade and cable curtain AH-HA.

Gotcha again Rojel. I think next time we should set up a video camera to capture the true initial reaction.
